General Dentistry

General dentistry is the most basic branch of dentistry, but it is still a very important part of dentistry. Dentists are the first line of defense. They oversee the study, diagnosis, and treatment of teeth and tissue in the oral cavity. They mostly diagnose and treat cavities. They do basic cleanings and check-up's of patients' teeth. They also examine x-rays, repair or replace cracked, chipped, or missing teeth. Other procedures that dentists perform are extractions and write prescriptions. One of the most important parts of general dentistry is prevention. When a patient comes in to the office, the dentist and his team clean your teeth to prevent further harm or damage that has already taken place. They also discuss ways to prevent tooth decay and gum disease with the patient before the patient leaves the office. The dentist will cover topics such as proper oral hygiene and a proper diet so that the teeth can become healthier and stay healthy. The dentist will usually provide a new, proper tooth brush as well as floss for the patient, so that the patient is able to properly prevent cavities and gum disease.  In order for someone to become a dentist, they will have to go through 4 years as an undergraduate. They then have to apply to an accredited dental school which is not an easy task. Dental schools are difficult to get into. After graduating from a dental school, the next task is to pass a written exam as well as a practical exam. That is the necessary steps for every dentist. Dentists can always further their education by going to lectures and hands-on workshops.      Call us today to schedule your next appointment! (928)774-5599
