Veneers

Veneers are a cure for discolored teeth, misshaped teeth, and crooked teeth. They are thin pieces of porcelain or plastic that placed over the front of the patient's teeth. Compared to bonding, veneers have a longer life expectancy and they are also more resistant to permanent staining.

The process is easy and almost completely painless. Some local anesthetic might be used but is not always necessary. Veneers are placed on the front of the tooth to either make the appearance of the tooth more attractive or to protect a tooth's surface that has already been damaged. Although they do protect the tooth's surface, veneers are mostly used for cosmetic dentistry so that patients can trade in their unwanted smile for a better and brighter smile. It is also an irreversible procedure due to the fact that a small amount of enamel needs to be removed so that the shell will properly fit and also be sturdy when placed on the tooth. When the dentist is actually placing the veneer, an adhesive is placed on the tooth after some of the surface has been removed. After the veneer has been placed, a high-intensity light is used to bond the veneer to the tooth. After the process is over, you will have a brighter smile that fits you better than the cracked, chipped, or worn down tooth you previously had.

Lumineers are very similar to traditional veneers, but there are some differences. While patients need a small portion of their tooth's surface to be removed, a smaller portion, if any of the tooth's surface needs to be removed for Lumineers. The procedure to receive Lumineers takes only 2 visits. The first visit will include a molding for the patient's teeth so the dentist can get the correct size and shape. The second visit to the dentist's office will be when the Lumineers are painlessly placed. After the Lumineers have been placed, the patient can expect them to last for over 20 years.
